If you know cats you know that they like their scratching time a LOT. And, it's not uncommon for you to come back home after work and see another piece of furniture destroyed by your cat.
But, why do cats do it?
That's what I'll be going through today!
Scratching is a form of an exercise for kitties and they also get to shed their nail sheaths which removes the dead part of their nails and keeps 'em looking fresh.
Kitties also 'mark' their territory this way. It's similar to what a dog does when he pees on a pole. They just let other cats out there know that it's their territory.
Yes, cats are territorial!
But, you must be wondering why they destroy your furniture, right?
I'll tell you!
That's because cats scratch places they spend most of their time at. So, if Snowbell loves to sit on the couch all day, every day then chances are that she'll scratch the life out of it as well.
So, what can you do?
Don't try to suppress this feline behaviour and get your kitty a cat post!
