What Is A Female Cat Called?

Are you wondering what a female cat is called?

Being an animal lover or owner is a full-time job of being curious. You want to know all there is about your pet or that animal you’d love to live with.

If you take particular interest in purring animals, also referred to like cats, you may have most likely had this question pop up in your mind; what are female cats called? Are male and female cats called differently?

What’s Her Name?

A bitch is a common name for a female dog, but only a few know what female cats or she-cats are called. The popular cartoon character name tom, in reality, holds truth. Male Cats are called Tom. Female cats, on the other hand, have two names.

Generally, they are referred to as Molly. Its origins and how it derived is not known.

But when a cat is expecting, pregnant and about to give birth to kittens, they’re called Queens. Undoubtedly well deserved and suitable to their personality, the queen is the name derived from the process of giving birth in cats which are called queening.

So, do you have a molly or a tom?

I really loved learning this information. My last/fav cat Coco was a Tom but my two previous cats (Misty & Cotton) were Mollies! and I never knew that. I may have heard the Queening term but your explanation refreshed my memory of it. Love learning new things about my favorite felines! Thx so much for sharing. Meow . . .
